Cities Forum 2023

Cities Forum 2023: 16 to 17 March in Torino, Italy

The 5th edition of Cities Forum was held in Torino, Italy from 16 to 17 March 2023, organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy. The two-day event brought together key urban stakeholders at European, national, regional and local levels who are committed to sustainable development and a green and just future of cities. Torino has undergone a huge urban transformation in recent years from factory town to a city of knowledge and culture and due to this transition was chosen as the venue of the event. The event included site visits in Torino where participants could get acquainted with developments that have contributed to making Torino a more sustainable, greener city.

The forum was a success with the engagement of the 750 on site participants, 100 speakers, 15 exhibitors and 600+ online viewers. The Cities Forum 2023 offered high-level debates, participatory sessions and interactive workshops on cohesion and recovery in cities. It provided participants with a unique opportunity to network and discuss the recent developments of various EU initiatives and policies, to explore the host city through several site visits as well as to have the official launch of the European Urban Initiative. The European Urban Initiative aims at supporting cities within this new Cohesion policy frame, encouraging them to be bold on innovation and to spread the benefits of tested solutions across Europe while supporting capacity building and evidence-based policy making, and knowledge sharing, on sustainable urban development.

For those who could not make it to Torino and for those who would like to relive the experience, we are pleased to share the digital takeaways from the event:
